I've been debating about whether or not to do a Thanksgiving post. Everyone is it seems. It feels very trite to jump on that band wagon and very rude not to. Please don't assume I am ungrateful. For I am very thankful for all that God has blessed us with. I have an amazing God, a wonderful husband and the cutest kids ever! {There does this count as a thanksgiving post?}
So today I am going to show you some cute and somewhat easy Christmas trees to make. The first ones are really the easy ones, the second one, not so much!
These little "trees" are made from a poster board and beaded garland. If you want to make some, here's what you'll need:
- Posterboard
- Beaded garland
- Aluminum foil
- Masking tape
- Hot glue gun
There are many tutorials out there for how to make a cone shape out of your posterboard. I tried to follow them but cutting a nice circle shape and all but in the end I found it easier to take a hunk of poster board and just twist it into shape. Sorry this isn't very technical, but it worked for me.
Once you twist it into shape tape it closed with your masking tape and them trim the bottom so it stands level.
Next, wrap it up in foil and tape the foil closed.
Once again, a little diet coke always helps! ;)
Now comes the fun part! You are going to run a bead of hot glue bit by bit all around the bottom edge for your first row of garland.
It is important that each bead on that first row get glued down because this row will carry the weight of your beads when its done and standing. After the first row you can glue every 6-8 beads or so all the way around and all the way up!
For the second one I decided to do stripes. This is easy to do because you can snip between the beads to add a new color. Just be sure to keep your seems {where you start and stop a new color} on the same side so you can have a seamless look on one side.
Mine sit on a plastic silver charger from Target and the little ornaments are from Target as well. A super cheap addition to the mantel this year!
This second tree I even hesitate to show you. It was way awesome-er in my brain. I loved the rustic looking trees that Target has this year and I tried to recreate one. Lets just say it might be worth the price tag to purchase theirs than to struggle through this one.
I collected a bunch of sticks from the yard and trimmed them so they would be about the same height. I secured them on one end with wire and a little hot glue after I pulled apart the bottoms of the sticks to get my tree shape. This is one Christmas craft that will probably make the trash heap after the season. But for now {as long as no on touches or bumps it} it will sit where it is.
I added some leftover garland to help it blend with the other decor for this year and my daughter added the snowflake while we were decorating the tree.
